Alright so…. I don’t normally like to start drama but today I was watching some videos before going to sleep and I stumbled across this video of a girl trying out a new tablet. The thumbnail looked familiar though and then I realized “wait…that looks like my art!” (the picture of a room with a cat and a big window and stars). So I watch the video and guess what? The composition and colors were the same,except this person added more things and made changes so it wouldn’t be like an exact copy of my piece. I kept watching,hoping that this girl would mention my name,but nope,she didn’t.
Like I said,I really do not like to start drama,but it is not ok to copy someone’s art,make some changes here and there and then claim the idea as your own. Just because you’ve made some changes doesn’t change the fact that you’ve pretty much used someone else’s art as a base for your own.
And what makes things even worse is that this person has 100k subscribers and is lying to her supporters like that.
I’ll give this girl a chance and wait to see if she takes down the video or at least credits me in the description. If not I will post a link to the video here on Tumblr.
I’m sorry guys for the rant! If you’ve been following me for a while you’d know I never post things like this. But this time I just feel really hurt and disrespected and needed to let it all out. Thanks to anyone who’s read this wall of text !
Update: I contacted this person and she told me she did not copy me nor base her art off mine. She then showed me a bunch of pictures she supposedely took inspiration from. Told me she doesnt even use Tumblr and that if she’s ever seen my pic before she probably scrolled past it.

Like I said,I really do not like to start drama but I am not ok with people straight up lying to my face and treating me as if I’m stupid. What she had to say when I showed her the two pictures was “Other than the desk and shelf I don’t see other similarities”. I understand two pieces can be similar, but some things here are way too similar to be just a coincidence. I wish people would understand that just because a piece isn’t the exact same as another,doesn’t change the fact that it was copied or at least highly inspired. It’s normal to take inspiration from other artists but everything would be easier if people learned to give proper credit BEFORE they get called out. Oh and let’s not forget that she pulled the “I have anxiety attacks ” card on me,which btw,I suffer from those too but I don’t use that to justify my mistakes? – She also told me she did this for practice and didn’t gain anything from it. Except….it was a sponsored video.
According to her…this is all a coincidence,she’s never seen my art before and she had no intentions of copying me. I even commented on her video yesterday but she removed my comment, told me she will add my name in the description if that will “put my heart at ease”. But to be completely honest that means nothing to me when she’s making it all seem like she’s doing me a favor and insists she hasn’t taken inspiration from me whatsoever.
I’m not linking her video because I want you to harass her,but more because I want you to see that sadly,people always do things like this and get away with it and have supporters . No one is perfect but some people really need to learn how to own up to their mistakes.
My art gets stolen and copied all the time and I’ve never called anyone out because I rather give people a chance first. But this time I can’t just stay quiet . I got so tired of all the excuses this girl was making up so I reported the video to YouTube and blocked her,and wish to never have to deal with her again. I just want people to know that things like this happen all the time,not only to me but to every artist who puts their art online.
So please,respect artists! It’s ok to copy,take inspo,even trace if that gives you a better understanding of how that artist works or if you think it’s going to help you improve your own skills. But be honest about it,don’t claim someone else’s art or idea as your own. Give proper credit.
And if you’re an artist? Don’t be like me. Don’t be afraid of speaking up. It’s ok to get mad and it’s ok to stand up for yourself.
